Sony Expects Strong Growth in PlayStation 5 Game Sales Next Year

Sony is forecasting a significant increase in PlayStation 5 game sales in the upcoming fiscal year, with projections pointing toward figures that will surpass those seen throughout the current year. According to the company, the growth is expected to be evident through April 2026, aligning with their fiscal reporting period.

The announcement comes alongside news that the PS5 has now surpassed 77.8 million units sold globally. With this milestone achieved, Sony is shifting its focus toward boosting software sales, particularly its first-party titles. Despite already posting strong results this year, the company aims to continue its upward trend in game sales quarter after quarter.

In its latest earnings report, Sony indicated that it expects a major year ahead for exclusive PlayStation 5 games. The company is confident that upcoming first-party releases will drive higher engagement and revenue.

Looking back, Sony had a standout year with blockbuster releases such as Helldivers 2, which sold over 12 million copies, and Astro Bot, which took home the Game of the Year title at The Game Awards 2024. These successes have set a high benchmark, but Sony believes it can maintain—and even surpass—this momentum with its 2025 lineup.

Leading the charge is Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the much-anticipated sequel from Kojima Productions. Scheduled for release in June, the game is already available for pre-order. Following that, Ghost of Yotei, a spiritual successor to Ghost of Tsushima, is set to launch on October 2, 2025. The game will come in various editions, featuring pre-order bonuses and a curated “Onryō List.”

Other notable titles expected to contribute to PS5’s software growth include Lost Soul Aside, slated for a summer release, as well as Marathon and the PC version of Stellar Blade. Each of these games targets a different segment of the gaming community, further broadening the console’s appeal.

Interestingly, while Sony projects a decline in hardware sales for the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2025, this is expected to be offset by a notable uptick in both first-party and third-party game purchases. The shift highlights a strategic emphasis on software, as the console enters the midpoint of its lifecycle.

With over half a year remaining in 2025, there is still room for Sony to unveil new projects. Some fans speculate that surprises may be in store, especially as the company maintains secrecy around certain releases. Notably, a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima has only recently emerged on the radar, signaling that the lineup for the rest of the year might still hold a few high-profile announcements.

As Sony continues to invest in exclusive content and partnerships, the company’s outlook suggests a promising period ahead for PlayStation 5 gamers and shareholders alike.
