In terms of design the Moto Z Play borrows its design cues from its elder Moto Z sibling. It features a 5.5inch FullHD display packed into a thin metal frame. It is a SUperAMOLED display with a screen resolution and Pixel density of 1080 x 1920 and 403PPI respectively. The display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass. Even the whole body of the Z Play has been protected by a water repellent nano-coating.
The Z Play features a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack and at the rear you will find the Moto Mods connecter that helps the accessories to snap fit on the device. The fingerprint sensor has been fitted in the home button itself.
The Moto Z Play is available in the market in colour options including Black, Silver, Black Slate, White, Fine Gold, and Sugar White.
The Motorola Mobile Computing System on the Z Play includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processo. It is a 2 GHz Octa-Core CPU coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. RAM stands at 3 GB whereas the ROM offered is of 32GB that can be extended upto 2TB via MicroSD card. The Z Play is equipped with Dual Sim capabilities. The set of sensors fitted on the phone are Fingerprint reader, Accelerometer, Ambient Light, Gyroscope, Magnetometer, Proximity, and an Audio monitor.
At the rear is 16MP primary shooter that uses a combination of Laser auto-focus and Phase Detection AutoFocus. It features ƒ / 2.0 aperture and a 1.3 um pixel size. On the front is a 5MP camera with ƒ / 2.2 aperture and a Wide-Angle 85 degree lens and also gets a flash module.
The Moto Z Play gets 3510 mAh battery that is claimed to provide a mixed usage of up to 45 hours. It supports Turbo Charging and a 15minutes of charging is claimed to provide up to 8 hours of power.
Moto Z Play gets stock Android v.6.0.1, Marshmallow with no UI laid on top.
