If you’re a Cricket fan, remember this name. Because 21-year old Mohit Ahlawat has managed to do something, most cricketers can only dream of. In a local T20 match that was being played at Lalita Park in East Delhi, the wicketkeeper-batsman scored 300* runs off 72 balls! His willow thinking it’s a cannon, Mad Max Mohit smashed 39 sixes and 14 fours to remain unbeaten at the end of his team’s innings.
Mohit Ahlawat isn’t an amateur though. He made his Ranji Trophy debut in November 2015 but failed to score in his last three knocks. Since then, he was sitting on the fences, but finally found the monster inside on Tuesday. Mohit was playing for a local team called the Maavi XI, which was pitted against the Friends XI in the quarterfinal of the Friends Premier League. While he was on strike, it was in the 11th over that he realized he could create some magic that day. When he reached a personal score of 150, he targeted to reach 250, and to achieve that, he told his partner at the other end that he was going to take most of the strike.
Humble about his achievement, when asked how he felt about his feat, he said, “Bhaiya, bas khelne bulaya thha, toh main chala gaya (They invited me to play and I simply went). By late evening, the wicketkeeper-batsman recieved a call from the Delhi Daredevils for a trial on Wednesday.
Ahlawat found the cricketer inside only four years ago, when his father sent him from Panipat to LB Shastri club in Delhi to learn under the guidance of Sanjay Bhardwaj, who is also the coach of the likes of Gautam Gambhir and Unmukt Chand. Talking about his future, Mohit said, “Mine is a family of farmers.I wasn’t really doing anything sitting at home. My family’s livelihood is taken care of but my necessities are looked after by Sanjay sir. I hope to get a job after I finish my graduation.”
