The Zenfones were losing marks on designs until the Zenfone 3 line-up happened. Even with the Zenfone AR, Asus has maintained the plan and the results are kickass. The phone looks all premium with its metallic unibody construction that is complemented by the burnished-leather rear surface. Even with a new TriCam system fitted onto the Zenfone AR, Asus managed to keep its dimensions pretty sleek.
The large 5.7inch SuperAMOLED display gets a WQHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The screen is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection and a Bluelight Filter.
The Asus Zenfone AR scores high in the performance department with the help of the gamut of premium hardware including the powerful 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC clocked at 2.35Ghz. Adreno 530 GPU takes care of the graphics duties. Asus has fitted the Zenfone AR with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of Internal storage, and a Hybrid SIM tray that supports microSD cards up to 2TB.
The Zenfone AR has a lot of stuff going into its camera department for the Tango augmented reality tech. The company calls it the TriCam system that is equipped with three cameras that execute three different duties. The Motion tracking camera lets the ZenFone AR track its location as it moves through space. Depth sensing camera with an infrared (IR) projector measures its distance from real-world objects and the third, 23MP camera, lets the user view virtual objects in an actual environment. The 23MP camera gets f/2.0 aperture, 6 P Largan lens, and laser auto-focus. At the front is an 8MP Camera with 85-degree wide- angle lens and f/2.0 aperture.
The 3300mAh non-removable battery comes with features as well. It supports BoostMaster Fast Charging that helps the phone to charge up to 60% battery capacity in 39 minutes. Other features include PowerDelivery 2.0 and Quick Charge 3.0.
The Asus Zenfone AR is preinstalled with Android v7.0 Nougat fitted with the optimized Asus ZenUI 3.0.
